One of the patterns included in the huge pattern sale bundle that I purchased was the Go-To Shift Dress by Andrea Pannell (of The Train to Crazy). There is nothing in this world I like better than a simple, fast, and cute sewing project! This pattern comes in size 12 months –12 years, so I can use it for all three of my girls for a very, very long time.
Because the dress is basically a standard A-line dress, it can be dressed up easily, with tights, leggings, a cardigan, a cute belt, etc. The pattern could be easily adapted too, like I did by changing the sleeve binding (I sewed my sleeve binding to match the neckline and to extend the shoulder width a tad) or even shortening it a little to make it a top. Simple changes make it more personal!
The front gathers are a sweet, feminine touch to the simple dress. But the cutest part is the keyhole closure on the back!
It is so adorable! So cute I didn’t notice my baby eating chalk… but anyway, I changed the closure part too by using the neckline binding to extend and be a loop for the button. Easy peasy, and a fun detail.
My 14-month-old is sporting the 18-month size here, so it is just a bit big. She will be growing out of her 12 month clothes really soon here, so I wanted her to be able to wear this a while! Still, she is able to crawl around in it just fine (no signs of wanting to walk quite yet- all my kids are late walkers!) and she can move and wiggle without the dress bothering her at all!
This dress would be great for beginners, since the pattern has step-by-step photo instructions. Don’t be afraid of the bias tape, it is so easy and the photos will help you, and you don’t have to make your own binding either. This took me a good 2 1/2 hours to make, but that included the pattern taping
This pattern is part of the Sew Fab e-Pattern Bundle, 18 patterns for $24.95. That is a crazy good deal. Go snag it before the sale is up, and enter the giveaway too! You have the chance to win $390 worth of goods in that giveaway!
I’m going to go snuggle a little baby in a cute new dress. Have a great day!Back to Blog
