Oh, Zippy Top. Finally, we’re together!! Can I just say, in full honesty, that I love NOT being pregnant? Some people love pregnancy days. I am not one of those people. I love, love, love the little adorable human beings that are the end result of a pregnancy but getting to the end is not my favorite. I actually sewed up this Zippy Top for ME before I even had my sweet baby because I was so anxious to do some selfish sewing and I was longing to be done with my growing-a-human phase. Sewing this top was both therapeutic, and depressing.
Part of the happiness comes from the lovely Amy Butler voile I used to make the Zippy Top. So light and airy! And the fabric combined with this simple, loose fitted top by Kate of See Kate Sew resulted in a top that was very forgiving of a postpartum belly (that you can kind of see in the photo above).
Even with my barely non-pregnant self, I think the top fits juuuuuuuuust a tad to big around my shoulders. I’ll probably size down the next time I make it. The length was perfect, I was a little concerned it would be a tad short (though not as short as the crop top version of this pattern!) but it was PERFECT. Also, since this shirt can be started and finished in under an hour, I fully intend on making good use of nap times to make more. SUCH an easy sew.
I love this top! I can’t wait to sew more. I plan on doing one with the front a different fabric from the back… and maybe some other pattern hacking along the way. Thanks for making such a great pattern, Kate!Back to Blog
